Linux woes
Hey guys, this is just to try and get some of my frustrations out to the interwebz and hopefully find someone who’s had the same kind of problems as I have and who might be able to help me solve them.
Basically, I’ve described my problem here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1703000
I installed ubuntu via wubi within my windows partition but I experienced random system freezes where the whole system would stall. Not kernel panicks because the numlock, capslock lights weren’t flashing. For a while I thought it to be caused by something related to the wireless driver but extensive testing of that hypothesis rejected that (system crashed even when wireless was turned off using the hardware switch and I also used ndiswrapper to switch to the same driver that my windoze install uses with no better results).
I have no idea what was causing the problems and I ended up giving up on ubuntu (*sobs*) because the freezes ended up being too frequent.
Hi well your problem is definately not typical and I will be sure to take a look. It sounds like an install instability. I would recommend looking at trying again with new install media.
You might find my blog interesting, perhaps you will take a look.

Thanks a lot for the comment, man! I’ll take your advice and try installing via more traditional measures — haven’t experienced install instabilities before but that would definitely explain why I can’t seem to find any patterns in how and why I get the freezes… I’ll be sure to check out your blog!
I know people have had trouble with sonys before. However having a dell has put me squarely in the totally compatible section. Just PM me or Email me if you need help and I have forgotten you or something.
Thanks a lot man! I’m currently studying for exams and I’m already struggling with keeping procrastination down so I think I’ll wait a few weeks before I do anything drastical… man I hope I can get back together with ubuntu! We used to be so happy together and windows just doesn’t make me feel the same way inside… I guess that’s what they call true love…
